The family of a dog stolen from a Palm Beach Gardens pet store over the weekend has been reunited with their furry family member – while police continue to search for the person they believe stole him.
Cameras from NBC affiliate WPTV caught the reunion of owner Tara Cameron Harris and “Teddy”, an 11-year-old Maltese, just after 4:30 a.m. at the Petco location in Palm Beach Gardens.
Harris told police she left her beloved pup, who is blind and suffers from diabetes, at a store Saturday evening for a grooming appointment. When she arrived to pick him up, an employee said Teddy had been taken by another woman.
Police found Teddy in the home of Heather Ryan and arrested the 48-year-old woman, but did not say what charges she will face.
Petco issued a statement saying they are taking the situation “very seriously” and are working with local authorities.
“We have strict policies in place designed to ensure the safety of pets in our grooming salons, and based on what we’ve learned so far, it’s clear those policies were not followed,” the company wrote. “We will be taking appropriate corrective action.”
