Fire Rescue Saves 900-Pound Pig From Pond

The pig, that is not fully grown, was awaiting a ride to its new home

Two fire departments teamed up Tuesday morning to rescue a 900-pound pig that fell into a pond in Southwest Ranches.

Strawberry, a 2-year-old Yorkshire pig, was rescued by the Pembroke Pines Fire Department and the Southwest Ranches Volunteer Fire Department after it slipped into five feet of water behind a home. She was awaiting a 450-mile ride to her new home in Wakulla.

Neighbors held the pig’s head above water as the owner called 911. Rescue used a ladder and a tarp to hoist her to safety.
