Getaway Car Used in Hialeah Jewelry Store Robbery and Shooting Found

Police find Bentley believed to have been used in jewelry store robbery burning in Miami

The white Bentley believed to be the getaway car used in the robbery of a Hialeah jewelry store was burning in a Miami parking lot Wednesday morning, police said.

Hialeah Police say the car, which was found in the parking lot of an apartment building on Northwest 7th Avenue near 15th Street, is being examined by detectives to try to find evidence.

The robbery happened around 6 p.m. Monday at the ABC Jewelry store at 3580 West 18th Avenue, when three armed suspects stormed into the store and ordered customers and employees to the ground, police said.

The suspects started smashing display cases and taking jewelry and took the gun from the store's security guard. One of the suspects then shot the store's manager one time in the abdomen before they fled the shop, police said.

Police said the manager, identified by coworkers as Alfredo Betancourt, was in stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital and expected to survive.

The store's owner, Alberto Cruz, said Tuesday that Betancourt was shot when he tried to help the security guard.
