High School Security Guard Arrested for Allegedly Choking, Punching Student in Miami Gardens

A security guard at one high school in Miami Gardens is behind bars after police say he was caught on camera dragging a student down the hallway after allegedly chocking and punching the teen.

Torien Austin was arrested Wednesday evening for the incident at Miami Norland Senior High School earlier in the day. The 26-year-old was charged with child abuse and battery and held on $6,500 bond.

According to an arrest report, police responded to the school after a student said Austin placed him in a chokehold, slammed him several times and punched him with his fist. The victim was treated for bruises and a bloody lip.

Surveillance cameras showed Austin pulling the student down a hallway while in a chokehold and into an office. Austin refused to answer questions and was transported to jail.

"Miami-Dade Schools Police is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances behind this arrest. However, actions such as the ones this employee is accused of will neither be tolerated, nor taken lightly. As such, the District has moved to immediately terminate his employment," Miami-Dade Public Schools said in a statement.
