Injured Man Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Wilton Manors Dies

Authorities are investigating after a man who was hurt and bleeding was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Wilton Manors early Friday just two days before his 40th birthday.

Raymond King was injured and lying in the roadway at the intersection of Northeast 6th Avenue and 27th Court when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle around 3 a.m., Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

The vehicle, estimated to be driving about 30 mph, didn't stay at the scene, officials said. The impact tossed King nearly 40 feet onto the grass swale on the street. King, who would have turned 40 on Sunday, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said blood evidence showed King had walked near the sidewalk and came to a rest in the middle of the northbound lane of Northeast 6th Avenue, where a large pool of blood was found. It's unknown how he was injured before he entered the roadway.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
