Miami Man Chanted “Just Let Me Die” While on Fire: Report

The 50-year-old man was severely burned in the apparent suicide attempt: Sun Sentinel

A Miami man chanted “just let me die” as his father-in-law tried to stop the fire he’d set on himself, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

The 50-year-old man was severely burned in the apparent suicide attempt Saturday afternoon and was taken to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami Fire-Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll told the Sun Sentinel.

Firefighters were called at 3:50 p.m. and found a Toyota Camry engulfed in flames on the 2900 block of SW 4th Street, Carroll said.

He told the newspaper that the man had gone to the home looking for his wife, who wasn’t there, but his father-in-law invited him inside.

The man agreed, but went to his car – and right after that the father-in-law saw the car and his son-in-law were on fire, the Sun Sentinel reported.

As he tried to put out the fire, the son-in-law chanted “just let me die,” the paper added.

Two other vehicles and electrical wires were damaged in the fire, according to Carroll.
