The Miami Police Department has released body camera footage from an incident in May in which an officer's foot was run over during a traffic stop allegedly by the driver of a stolen vehicle who was arrested after a chase.
Xavier Maycox faces charges including third-degree grand theft, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting a police officer with violence.
The traffic stop occurred because the suspect allegedly ran past a stop sign, according to police. The driver then started to scream and act belligerently, stating that police are always trying to harass him, police said.
According to police, as the unidentified officer approached the driver during the traffic stop, the driver sped off to flee – running over and injuring the officer's foot.
Officers chased the vehicle and stopped it in the area of NW 4th Avenue and 6th Street. The two people within the vehicle were arrested.
MPD said it confirmed the vehicle was stolen. The injured officer was evaluated at Jackson Health System's Ryder Trauma Center.
