Publix Testing Meal Kits in Select Stores to Rival Online Delivery Service

Publix Supermarkets is looking to add another option for customers wondering what to make for dinner – testing fully prepared home meals ready to go at several stores.

The full meal kits, currently being offered at a store in Tampa and one in Orlando, contains portioned ingredients set to feed anywhere from one to four people – complete with side dishes. The kits range anywhere in price, depending on food item and quantity, from less than $10 to nearly $40 per kit.

Publix describes the kits as “restaurant-style dinner at home” with entrees ranging from beef bratwurst to chipotle shrimp tacos. The food, created by the chain’s Aprons brand, is an extension of other products designed to help the shopper who doesn’t have time to shop for ingredients.

Meal kits have become popular across the country, with national companies like Blue Apron delivering ingredients straight to your home without having to go shopping.

Publix says the meals could expand to stores across the company if it succeeds during this test run.
