A six-week-old puppy is recovering from severe burns sustained while seeking shelter during Hurricane Hermine in Ocala.
Veterinarians at the Humane Society of Marion County say a mother dog protected her four pups from the harsh weather under a car.
Vets believe the car's hot tail pipe likely burned one of the puppies, saying the third-degree burns cover about 20 percent of the puppy's body.
The dog, named Keegan, will require two or three months of intensive therapy.
Vets say he has a fiery spirit and a good appetite.
A volunteer with the animal shelter set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds to help pay Keegan's medical treatment.
The Ocala Star-Banner reports the owner brought the dogs to the shelter and surrendered custody.
