Two members of the Florida House – including one from Miami Beach – have introduced bills that would tax marijuana and legalize its use across the state.
House Bill 1117, introduced by Democratic Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith of Orlando and Rep. Michael Grieco of Miami Beach, would allow for the use of small amounts and personal possession by people over the age of 21 while also allowing individuals to grow up to six marijuana plants.
Grieco also introduced House Bill 1119, which would tax marijuana up to $50 an ounce.
Both bills face an uphill climb as leaders of both Republican led chambers of the legislature have opposed making recreational use legal.
