Swimming Advisory Issued After Sewage Overflow in Oleta River State Park

A swimming advisory for the waters surrounding Oleta River State Park was issued Tuesday due to a temporary overflow of partially treated wastewater Tuesday morning.

The county said that due to heavy rain at the North District Wastewater Treatment Plant; roughly 1.2 to 1.6 million gallons of sewage was released into the surface waters around the plant.

The swimming advisory runs from Sunny Isles Blvd south to Oleta River State Park Beach and from the eastern boundary of the Intracoastal Waterway west to Biscayne Boulevard.

The county said the Florida Department of Health and the Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources are testing the waters and the swimming advisory will remain in place until the test results clear the area.
