Teen Accused of Shooting Friend Being Charged as Juvenile

The teen accused of shooting and killing his friend in Cooper City will not be charged as an adult.

New information has been released in the case of a South Florida teen accused of accidentally shooting and killing his friend.

Prosecutors said the 14-year-old suspect will not be charged as an adult for the shooting that happened last month at his Cooper City home.

Police said three teens were passing a gun around and taking turns pulling the trigger when a shot rang out, killing 14-year-old Charlie Martin.

They found the gun in an unlocked carrying case in the garage. The gun belonged to the suspect's step-father, who the Sun Sentinel reported will not be charged.

The teen suspect is still charged with manslaughter as a juvenile. He was expected to be released to his parents on Thursday, but it's unclear whether that happened.
