Driver Arrested After Truck Crashes Into Fort Lauderdale Convenience Store

A man was arrested after a pickup truck crashed into the convenience store of a gas station Tuesday in Fort Lauderdale.

The crash happened before 1:30 p.m. at the Exxon gas station on NE 4th Avenue and NE 13th Street.

Surveillance video shows the truck rolling through the store, knocking over shelves and nearly running over one patron. No one was seriously hurt, but someone was transported to the hospital as a precaution, Fort Lauderdale police said.

The driver, 67-year-old Joseph Wayne Aligns, was arrested. He faces charges of DUI, DUI with property damage and failure to use due care, according to police,

Syed Ali, the owner of the convenience store, said he reopened the store about an hour after the crash.
