Police in one city along Florida’s Treasure Coast are looking for a woman they say was stealing from elderly patients while claiming to be a caregiver.
Officials in Port St. Lucie are looking for 36-year-old Victoria Alpert, who allegedly stole thousands of dollars in both cash and heirlooms from the homes she worked in as a live-in employee, according to NBC affiliate WPTV-TV.
Police say they have tracked down at least 20 items at pawn shops in the area and say Alpert will face at least 19 charges when arrested.
“There’s currently no Florida law that requires anyone to be licensed to provide care to the elderly,” said Tim Herring with the city’s Police Department. “I would recommend if anyone is looking to hire a caregiver for a loved one or yourself, is to hire from a reputable agency.”
