Singapore Police Kill Man Near U.S. Defense Secretary's Hotel

Singapore police said they shot and killed one person and detained two others early Sunday morning after a car the suspects were riding in crashed near a hotel where U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter was staying, Reuters reported. Police said they stopped the car at a checkpoint outside the Shangri-La Hotel, where Carter was visiting for a three-day meeting of top Asia-Pacific defense officials. Police asked to check the car, but the driver sped away, crashing through barriers as officers opened fire on the car. Carter was in the hotel at the time, but neither he nor any other delegates were in danger, conference organizers said.
