Ichiro Goes Deep As Marlins Take Series

Ichiro Suzuki hit his first home run as a Marlin as his team beat the Mets 7-3 on Wednesday

Ichiro Suzuki blasted a three-run home run to help the Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets by a final score of 7-3 on Wednesday.

The home run was the first for Suzuki in a Miami uniform and gave his team some much needed insurance. With the crowd chanting his name, Suzuki battled in a long at-bat before depositing a ball into the right field seats. The fans then gave Suzuki a curtain call upon his return to the dugout.

With the win, Miami has now won seven of its last eight games after starting the year with a dismal 3-11 record. The win also gave the Marlins a series win, and the team has now taken three consecutive series.

Before Suzuki's heroics, the Marlins had help from other members of the lineup as well. Giancarlo Stanton got his team on the board early with a two-run home run in the first inning. The homer tied the game following a blast from Michael Cuddyer in the top half of the inning. It was Stanton's sixth home run of the season. With another run batted in later in the game, Stanton now has 21 RBI this year.

Dee Gordon continued to pace the big leagues with another pair of hits. The electrifying second baseman is hitting a cool .409 this season atop Miami's lineup. Gordon also brought home a run of his own.

Mat Latos exited the game after only five innings due to a strained hamstring. The right-hander injured himself trying to run to first base and is considered day-to-day. Before exiting, Latos allowed three runs on five hits and could potentially land on the disabled list.

Miami will enjoy a day off on Thursday before resuming the schedule against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.
