Marlins Throw the Game Away on Opening Day

Mets finally beat Josh Johnson, 7-1

Florida committed three errors during the New York Mets' four-run sixth inning that blew the game open, leading to a 7-1 opening day loss in New York.

David Wright hit a two-run homer, Johan Santana pitched six effective innings to help the Mets finally solve Josh Johnson, who hadn't lost to the N.L. East rivals in his career.

Johnson allowed four runs and five hits over five-plus innings in his first opening-day start, dropping to 7-1 with a 2.69 ERA in 10 career starts against New York.

If JJ was looking for a pick me up from his teammates, he was sadly mistaken. He got more of a let me down.

The Fish had cut the lead to 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, when a comedy of errors opened the floodgates.

Throwing errors by relief pitchers Clay Hensley and Dan Meyers, followed by an errant throw from first baseman Gaby Sanchez in rapid succession turned a tight one into a 6-1 deficit.
