Everyone knows that the roommate search can be a nightmare, but until now, nobody has really done anything about it. Enter ApartmentList.com, which claims to be the country's fastest-growing housing search engine, and hopes to own the roomshare market, reports The Observer
Recently the site launched a free app in New York, LA, Chicago, and Boston, that uses Facebook to match potential roommates.
"In New York it’s the perfect storm of high housing costs and low vacancy rates,” said co-founder John Kobs. Kobs added that he once went through the process of finding a roommate in New York, and struggled.
The app matches roommates who fill out a list of search categories, like price range, neighborhood, etc., and then are shown profiles and potential overlapping social circles of other apartments and roommate seekers. It's comparable to the dating apps that are becoming increasingly popular, which makes sense, since the searches have much in common.
The app launched two weeks ago in San Francisco and Kobs said it's already been downloaded 2,000 times.
