Pompano Beach man arrested in crash that killed 23-year-old

A Pompano Beach man is facing DUI manslaughter charges in a crash that killed a man in Hollywood last month.

Jason Marshall, 32, is charged with DUI manslaughter, DUI manslaughter with an unlawful blood alcohol level, driving with a suspended license, causing death while driving with a license suspended and DUI property damage in the Feb. 20 crash that killed 23-year-old Derek Arango, Hollywood Police said Wednesday.

Police say Marshall had a blood alcohol level of .16, double the state's legal limit, when he rear ended Arango's car which was stopped at a red light at North 72nd Avenue and Sheridan Street.

Arango was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he later died.

Marshall's driver's license was revoked at the time of the crash and he was designated a habitual traffic offender by the state, police said.

Marshall was arrested on March 2 when he appeared at the Broward County courthouse on an unrelated issue. He is being held without bond and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.
