Carlos Bertonatti looked straight into the faces of Christophe LeCanne's family Tuesday as he apologized for the hit-and-run crash that killed the cyclist. "The truth is that this was a freak accident and I'm really, really sorry," he said.

Police are investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred early Saturday morning in Boynton Beach.

Joseph D’Errico was walking across Old Boynton Road at Knuth Road around 12:32 a.m., when he was struck by a car.

D’Errico, 26, of Boynton Beach, was taken to Delray Trauma Center, where he died as a result of his injuries.

According to witnesses, the vehicle that struck D’Errico may be a beige pick-up with front-end damage.
