Man Wanted in Fatal Lauderhill Shooting Caught

Man wanted in triple shooting arrested at mother's house

Police have arrested a man wanted in the New Year's Day shooting that left his wife and stepdaughter dead and his grandmother hospitalized in Lauderhill.

Eric Eugene Montgomery, 28, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. Monday at his mother's house in the 2500 block of NW 14th Street in Fort Lauderdale after a joint effort by Lauderhill Police and the Broward Sheriff's Office, authorities said.

He was booked into the Broward County Jail later Monday morning.

Police said Montgomery shot and killed his 34-year-old wife, Natalia Hamilton, and 19-year-old stepdaughter, Alexis Hamilton, after a fight at their home at 1391 NW 55th Ave. around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. His 73-year-old grandmother, Bertharee Tomlin of Oakland Park, was also shot in the arm and taken to Broward General Hospital and is expected to be OK, police said.

Alexis Hamilton was a student at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, according to police.

A young child and another adult who were in the home at the time of the shooting were unharmed.

Authorities said Montgomery fled the scene in his 2004 Ford F-150, which was found at the scene of his arrest Monday.
