A Broward pastor will bike 1,500 miles from Pembroke Pines to New York City to raise money for Haiti.

Pastor Guy Melton from Oasis Church says so much work still needs to be done to rebuild the earthquake-ravaged country.

"I knew there was a calling there, but I just didn't know where to start," Melton said.

He is set to start his bike trip, which he will document at BikeForHaiti.com, on Sunday.

“I'm expecting to survive the 1,500 miles and it's going to be one day at a time," he said.

Melton says he chose to bike 1,500 miles because that is the distance round-trip from Florida to Haiti. So far he has raised $90,000, and he says everyone who makes a pledge gets a bracelet.

“There are some villages where kids don't even wear clothes for the day because they only have one set of clothes for the whole week,” Melton said.

James Brown, Melton’s friend, said the response has been overwhelming. Even the bike was donated.
