Fort Lauderdale Police say they've arrested a pair of men for a series of armed robberies throughout Broward County.
Robert Martinez-Valerino and Kyle Spellacy, both 19, were arrested last Tuesday on charges related to four armed robberies, police said Monday.
Both were being held without bond and it was unknown whether they have attorneys.
According to police, the 99 Cents Store at 1607 East Sunrise Boulevard was robbed on Sept. 29 when a suspect entered the store and implied he had a handgun.
The suspect threatened to point the gun at the clerk and demanded he open the cash register as the clerk counted down from ten, police said. Fearing for his life, the clerk complied, and the suspect grabbed the cash and fled the scene.
A witness, identified as Martinez-Valerino, told officers at the scene that he was inside the store and witnessed the incident, police said.Martinez-Valerino claimed he chased the suspect from the store and tried to catch him but lost sight of him, police said.
On Oct. 2, police responded to an armed robbery at the Walgreen's at 1515 East Sunrise Boulevard, where they immediately located Martinez-Valerino and Spellacy and took them into custody, police said.
The pair gave full confessions to the Walgreen's robbery, police said. Detectives determined they were both also responsible for the 99Cents Store robbery, as well as armed robberies in Oakland Park and Wilton Manors.
