Authorities are investigating after a Plantation Key woman was stabbed inside her home late Tuesday.

The 33-year-old woman told deputies she was sleeping in her bedroom at the home in the 81000 block of Old Highway when a man, who she is acquainted with, broke a rear window to get inside and stabbed her in the chest, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

The woman said the suspect held the knife to her throat and asked her to leave the house with him, authorities said.

As they were walking out the front door, they encountered the woman's friend in her yard, who scared off the suspect, authorities said.

The woman's friend drove her to Mariner's Hospital and she was later airlifted to Miami's Ryder Trauma Center for treatment for her injuries.
