As teams from Germany, Ghana, Nigeria, and the United States battle it out in Brazil at the quadrennial World Cup, businesses in South Florida are cashing in on World Cup fever.

German fans packed the Fritz and Franz Bierhaus inside and outside to cheer Germany on Monday morning. While the crowd cheered, all the owners heard was the cash register making sale after sale.

“Every four years it’s Christmas in July, Christmas in June,” said Fritz and Franz Bierhaus owner Harald Neuweg. “It’s just a fantastic time. We know we’re gonna double our sales. We have a lot of fun. We’re completely overworked, but it doesn’t matter. The World Cup is the most important event for us.”

One bartender said the business during the World Cup is approximately triple the usual business. Fritz and Franz tries to capitalize on the World Cup with two bars and seating outside to help with overflow crowds.

“I think there is a huge impact,” said Juergen Borsch, German Consul General. “Miami is the hub for Latin America and the Caribbean. We’ve seen so many fans and teams coming through the Miami International Airport.”

With soccer taking over, Soccer Locker is also cashing in with everyone wanting team gear.

“It’s an extraordinary event for every entrepreneur like us,” said Jaime Zighelboim of Soccer Locker.

And even though Fritz and Franz is making a lot of money from the World Cup, they are also trying to give some back to the community. The bierhaus is donating a dollar from every beer sold to NPH-USA, a charity that takes care of homeless kids in the Caribbean and Latin America.

“What a better way to use the World Cup to raise awareness, because we’re all fans,” said Jorg Nowake of NPH-USA.
