An 11-year-old boy was killed Friday night while attempting to cross busy North Andrews Avenue in Oakland Park without using a crosswalk.
Authorities say Augustine Delacruz was in the North 3800 block with three friends around 7 p.m. when the group decided to cross the street. Two made it across, and one did not attempt it, but Delacruz was clipped by a pickup truck as he stook in the median halfway across.
The boy lost his balance and fell backwards into the path of two northbound vehicles that could not stop in time. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say all of the vehicles involved stopped and cooperated with the investigation; witnesses are asked to call the Broward Sheriff's Office at 954-765-4321.
