Boy, 8, Still Recovering From Drive-By Shooting in North Miami

An 8-year-old boy who was shot in the leg during a drive-by shooting in North Miami continued to recuperate Thursday.

The boy's grandfather says he was playing ball near the front door when the shooting happened Wednesday night near near Northeast 128th Street and 12th Avenue.

The child was transported to the hospital and according to family he will need surgery.

"My grandson hurt, I'm hurt too," Pierre Joseph said.

A 35-year-old woman and 18-year-old Jean Louis Mardochee were also caught in the crossfire. Mardochee was standing by a car outside the apartment complex that now has a bullet hole in the trunk.

"The car came and it's slowing down, they started shooting, I started running, and I moved my arm, and I got hit right there," Mardochee said.

Witness Isaiah Laurent said he heard the gunfire and seconds later a loud knock on the window.

"I opened the door and they brought in the kid and he's just there bleeding and I'm just like 'what happened?'" Laurent said.

All three victims are expected to be okay, but Mardochee says the well-being of his young neighbor is on his mind. The teen does not believe he was the intended target.

"If somebody want to kill me they could've shot me somewhere else. I think the bullet was for somebody else, I don't know," Mardochee said.
