Broward County Does Aerial Spraying For Mosquitoes Thursday Morning

As the summer months are fully underway, Broward County is taking to the skies in an effort to combat the pesky problem of mosquitos.

Aerial spraying began Thursday morning, targeting areas around Southwest Ranches and Pembroke Pines. Officials planned the spraying after recent strong storms in the area, dropping large amounts of rain that are the perfect conditions for the pest.

This specific spraying has nothing to do with any threat of the Zika virus, officials say – adding morning spraying is the most effective because that is when adult mosquitos are most active.

Scientists say that the chemicals burn off by sunrise and do not pose harm to humans. Anyone who wants to request county spraying can do so by calling 311.
