Dead Baby Found in Box in North Miami: Police

Authorities are investigating after the body of a baby was found in a box in North Miami Friday.

The disturbing discovery was made outside a U-Gas station at 1601 Northwest 119th Street, North Miami Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said.

Officials said a customer of the gas station found the box on a dumpster and called 911. The baby was wrapped and appeared to be a newborn, police said.

Cassandra Burgess works at the gas station but wasn't on duty when the discovery was made.

"I'm in shock," Burgess said.

Several North Miami Police officers were at the scene Friday morning. Police said they haven't determined the baby's gender yet.

"We are at this current time with the investigators looking into all the details as to the manner of death, cause of death, how it came to be at this location," police spokesman Maj. Neal Cuevas said.
