‘Dexter' Author Gets Re-Release of Old Novel; Sequel Upcoming

South Florida author Jeff Lindsay has killed off his popular Dexter series, but now he's reviving a character he first wrote about more than two decades ago.

A re-release of Lindsay's 1994 thriller ``Tropical Depression'' is hitting shelves Tuesday, with a sequel, ``Red Tide,'' scheduled for October.

The series follows Billy Knight, a former Los Angeles police officer and current Key West fishing boat captain. In ``Tropical Depression,'' Knight is trying to start over in the Florida Keys when a former co-worker asks for help in solving his son's murder. After initially dismissing his old colleague, Knight finally gets involved after the co-worker himself turns up dead.

Lindsay brought his Dexter series to a close after eight books with last month's release of ``Dexter is Dead.'' Showtime adapted the books into the hit television series ``Dexter.''
