Florida Atlantic University Soccer Player Accused in Fatal Shooting

A 19-year-old is accused of fatally shooting a Florida Atlantic University student at an off-campus apartment in Boca Raton.

Police say 19-year-old Nicholas Max Acosta was shot twice Tuesday night in a third-floor apartment of a complex that houses students from FAU, Lynn University and Palm Beach State College.

Police announced the arrest of 19-year-old Donovan Malik Henry Wednesday on the department's official Twitter account.

According to a news release, Acosta's girlfriend said five men entered the apartment and ordered the couple to the ground. Acosta was shot. She told police a bag of marijuana was missing after the shooting. Police checked Acosta's phone and found a text conversation that led them to Henry.

Henry, a soccer player at FAU, faces first-degree murder and robbery charges. It's not clear whether he's hired an attorney.

"He was a friendly little kid. He was a passionate kid about the game of soccer," said Coach David Cunningham, who said Henry has loved soccer since age nine. "He had the talent, he had the skill set and the IQ."

Coaches said Henry had a bright future ahead of him. He wanted to play pro soccer and then become an engineer like his father. He's now being held behind bars without bond.

Police are still searching for the other four suspects accused in the shooting.
