Foul Play Involved in Death of Woman Found in Burning Miramar Home: Police

Police believe foul play was involved in the death of a woman who was found in a burning home in Miramar last week.

The woman, identified by friends as 46-year-old Sivieta Diaz, was discovered inside her home in the 6600 block of Southwest 20th Street on Friday. Firefighters found Diaz passed out as they battled smoke and flames in the home.

Diaz was hospitalized but later died. Miramar Police officials said she suffered head injuries that were not consistent with a fire.

At Diaz's home Tuesday, ex-husband Roberto Santoyo said he was searching for answers in her death.

"Right now I'm in shock, I can't think, you think this is a lie," he said.

Santoyo said he and Diaz had gotten back together and he stayed at the home the night before the fire. He said he went to work and came home to the smoking house.

Nothing was stolen from the home and Diaz didn't have enemies, Santoyo said.

At the La Carreta in Hialeah where Diaz worked, long-time customers said she had a good heart.

"She was always serving me and give me what I ordered, I never had a problem with her," Renato Lopez said.

Detectives are still investigating the cause of the fire and Diaz's death.

"How can I tell you how hard it is, I've been living with her for 31 years, this isn't hard, it's very hard. And I have to be strong because my daughter is pregnant, I have to pretend I'm strong. Because it ain't easy," Santoyo said.
