King Tides Expected to Bring Flooding to Coastal Areas of South Florida This Weekend

South Florida’s coastal residents are preparing for the potential flooding that comes with the scientific event known as King Tides.

Occurring when the sun, moon and earth are aligned or during a full moon or new moon cycle, areas such as Miami Beach, Coastal Broward County and the Florida Keys will see rising water levels in the coming days.

Forecasts say that the best chance for areas to deal with flooding is this weekend - with tides in Miami-Dade and Broward expected between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m - but drivers and residents are reminded to be on the lookout and not drive or walk through flooded areas.

The flooding is forecasted to potentially effect the Keys late Sunday night.

King Tides arrived in both September and early October, but this weekend is expected to produce the highest water levels of the three periods.
