Man Arrested in Hialeah Gardens Skimming Raid

A Hialeah Gardens man is behind bars after a police raid uncovered an elaborate credit card skimming scheme.

Miami-Dade Police say 28-year-old Anthony Nunovero is charged with organizing a scheme to defraud, credit card forgery and possessing equipment to make fake credit cards.

After Thursday morning's raid, police uncovered skimmers, counterfeit credit cards, and a laptop from Nunovero's home, located on West 28th Avenue just off of 60th Street.

Police say all of the equipment is what is needed to steal your credit card and debit card information from gas pumps.

"When customers come and use their credit card, their credit card or debit card is being recorded," said Detective Marcos Rodriguez of Miami-Dade Police.

Police estimate that Nunovero hit at least nine gas stations and obtained 2,000 credit card numbers.

It's estimated that Nunovero stole at least $500 per credit card.

Consumers are advised to take measures to protect themselves from skimmers. Always keep your credit and debit cards in sight, and try to pay in cash at the pump. Police also advise customers to closely monitor their transactions and to immediately report any suspicious activity to the credit card company or to the bank.
