Man Killed by Flying Debris in Miami Beach

A man was killed in Miami Beach by flying debris caused by high winds on Friday, police said.

Humberto Rodriguez was working on the electrical gate at the Flamingo Apartments, located at 1560 Bay Road, just after 7 p.m. That's when police said high winds caused a glass table top located on a ninth-floor balcony to fly off and hit him.

Miami Beach Fire Rescue rushed Rodriguez to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

A spokesperson for Aimco, the management company for the Flamingo apartments, released a statement, saying, "Our hearts go out to the family, friends, neighbors and colleagues of Humberto Rodriguez. Humberto was an outstanding member of the Flamingo team, known for his dedication to helping residents and for treating everyone with respect. He will be missed by the entire team at Apartment Investment and Management Company, where he built his career over the last 17 years."
