Man Working on Disabled Car Shot and Killed in Fort Lauderdale

Police are searching for a suspect who shot and killed a man who was working on a disabled car outside a Fort Lauderdale store over the weekend.

The victim was working on the car outside the Midway Food Store at 110 Northwest 11th Avenue just before 1 a.m. Saturday when the suspect walked up and shot him, Fort Lauderdale Police said.

Police said the victim, 50-year-old John Jackson, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he later died. Police didn't give a possible motive for the shooting.

Faith Patterson, Jackson's partner of 10 years, said the suspect did a "cowardly act."

"Shot him in the head from the back. I'm just asking for the community to please help me find his killer so that I can be at ease and rest," Patterson said.

Surveillance video released by police showed the suspect, who was described as a black male, between 30 to 35 years old, with a medium build and a full beard.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.

Patterson said Jackson "never bothered anybody." She is still haunted by her last memory of him

"He came in the house and I told him: 'Stay in the house. Don't go back out.' But he insisted on going back out and I never did see him anymore until somebody came knocking on the door and told me to come to midway. He had got shot," Patterson said.
