Miami Hurricanes Hire New Football Coach: Reports

The Miami Hurricanes' search for a new football coach appears to be over. Mark Richt is taking the job, according to multiple reports.

The former Georgia coach was Miami's top choice, and on Wednesday evening, ESPN and others said Richt will have a deal with the Canes finalized by Thursday.

Richt was just fired at Georgia after 15 seasons there. He won two SEC championships with Georgia, but was never able to win a national championship.

Richt does have ties to the University of Miami. He was a backup quarterback for UM from 1978-1982.

He was making close to $4 million at Georgia and according to the Miami Herald, Miami is willing to pay Richt $4 million per season to become the new head coach.

The University of Miami does not comment on ongoing coaching searches, so there hasn't been any official word yet.
