A Miami man is facing charges after police say he sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl.

Jose Del Carmen Escoto, 59, is charged with seven counts of sexual battery on a child and one count of lewd and lascivious exhibition, Miami Police said.

The mother of the victim, who didn't want to be identified, said Escoto, her neighbor, sexually assaulted her daughter while she was playing outside with another 7-year-old boy on Sunday.

Police said Escoto lured the girl after she asked him for $2. According to detectives, Escoto gave her $1 before he assaulted her in front of the boy.

The victim then told authorities the same man has sexually assaulted her on seven separate occasions, police said.

Police said they don't want to cause panic, but they are investigating this case. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

Jail records showed Escoto was being held without bond Wednesday. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.
