South Florida officials are asking the public not to ring in 2014 with celebratory gunfire.
Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, Police Chief Manuel Orosa, Miami-Dade Commissioner Audrey Edmonson and other elected officials are coming together to promote the "One Bullet Kills the Party" campaign.
They'll be discussing the campaign at a news conference Monday.
According to the officials, every year, innocent people are struck by celebratory gunfire.
Five-year-old Rickia Isaac was killed in 1997 by a falling bullet on New Year’s in South Florida. On the 4th of July in 2012, two people were hit after someone fired into the air at a Coral Gables fireworks show.
And last New Year's, a man was hit with a bullet in what was believed to be celebratory gunfire in Miami.
