Mom Turns in Purse-Snatching Son

Teen robbed 78-year-old woman, who suffered a broken elbow

A Miami teen accused of snatching an elderly woman's purse was turned in by his mother, police said Tuesday.

The 13-year-old boy was brought to Miami Police headquarters by his mother Sept. 8 and confessed to the June 25 purse snatching, police said.

The incident occurred near the Metrorail station at Northwest 1st Avenue and Northwest 6th Avenue, and surveillance cameras from nearby businesses captured the suspect fleeing from the scene clutching the woman's purse, police said.

The 78-year-old woman was knocked to the ground and broke her arm in the fall. She is recovering at home from her injuries, police said.

The boy has been charged with strong arm robbery and battery on the elderly.
