Police Investigate Murder-Suicide in Miami-Dade

Husband and wife found dead by daughter in Southwest Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade Police were on the scene of an apparent murder-suicide early Monday morning.

Detectives said 69-year-old Jorge Estacio shot and killed his wife, Sonia, around 11:42 Sunday night at the couple's home in the 9400 block of Southwest 155th Avenue.

The couple's daughter and her boyfriend and a toddler were also inside the home at the time of the shooting and Miami-Dade Police said the daughter found her parents' bodies. The bystanders were not physically harmed, police said.

Jorge and Sonia Estacio were arguing when he shot his 59-year-old wife several tiems before shooting himelf, according to investigators.

Authorities said the couple had lost two of its daughters in a violent car accident on I-75 in Weston in 2009.

"Unfortunately, tragedy struck this family in the past," Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta said. "About two years ago, the other two daughters that the husband and wife, Sonia and Jorge had, they were involved in a car accident on I-75."

A friend of Sonia Estacio, who arrived at the scene of the shooting early Monday morning, told NBC Miami that Estacio was pursuing a divorce from her husband.

"There's nothing at this point that shows any history of domestic violence," Zabaleta said.

Police are still investigating the incident.
