Small Plane Crash Kills 1 in Florida Panhandle

The Okaloosa Sheriff's office said a 911 call about a small plane going down about 3 p.m. Saturday. It was a single-engine plane.

Authorities say they are responding to a small plane that crashed in Okaloosa County in the Florida Panhandle, killing the only person on board.

Mack Wilkins is chairman of the Almarante Volunteer Fire Department board. He told the Northwest Florida Daily News that he lives about a mile from the crash site and that emergency responders found only one person at the scene.

Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, confirmed the crash and said only the pilot was on board.
