Wittels' Lawyer Says Video Proves Innocence

Girls were aggressive: FIU baseball star's attorney

The lawyer for Florida International University baseball star Garrett Wittels says his client is innocent and the proof is on video tape.

"The young ladies were being very aggressive and being the seductresses," Miami defense attorney Richard Sharpstein said of Wittels' accusers.

Wittels and two friends are charged with raping two girls from Texas during a vacation in the Bahamas last December.

Sharpstein says surveillance video from a casino shows the group laughing and kissing while playing craps.

The two 17-year-old girls have claimed Wittels and his friends were the aggressors and forced them into having sex. Sharpstein says the video shows the opposite, with the girls coming on to the boys.

"What they've said all along is they've had nothing but voluntary, consensual sex with very willing young ladies," said Sharpstein.

The national sports spotlight was shining down on Wittels last year, as he was chasing the record for consecutive hits in college baseball games. He ended his streak a few hits shy of the record.
