Obama: “Entire World Is Appalled” by Journalist's Killing

President Barack Obama on Wednesday said "the entire world is appalled" by American journalist James Foley's execution by the Islamic militant group ISIS. Obama paid tribute to Foley and said he told his family "we are all heartbroken." The president said the group "speaks for no religion" with their "bankrupt" ideology, vowed that the U.S. “will do what we must” to “protect our people” and called for a common effort to "extract this cancer." In the ISIS video, which the White House authenticated Wednesday, a militant pulls out a knife and says Foley is being killed because of the recent U.S. airstrikes in Iraq. A fighter then stands next to a man identified as American journalist Steven Joel Sotloff and threatens his life unless the U.S. calls off airstrikes.
