Thanksgiving Storm Leaves More Than 344K in Darkness

Repair crews made progress restoring power to more than 344,000 left in the dark on Thanksgiving across the Northeast, but many remained without electricity Thursday night after a nor'easter dumped up to 20 inches of snow and slush across the region. Power outages were reported from West Virginia to Vermont early Thursday — including 112,000 customers in Maine, 28,000 in Massachusetts and 140,000 in New Hampshire at 1 p.m. ET. Areas hit by snow also face a chilly cleanup, with temperatures plunging about 10 to 20 degrees below normal in the Midwest and Ohio Valley. Icy road conditions caused a chain-reaction crash near Niagara Falls, New York, Thursday evening, with more than 50 vehicles involved.. However, skies were clear Thursday in New York for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Manhattan.
