Dolphins Interview Toub, Not Interested in Billick

Miami speaks with their Plan B, but is ready to give Jeff Fisher all the money he wants

The Miami Dolphins interviewed another coaching candidate on Wednesday, Chicago Bears special teams coordinator Dave Toub. But one candidate who had previously seemed like a likely target for the team, former Baltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick, has apparently fallen off the Dolphins' radar.

According to The Miami Herald, Toub arrived at Dolphins facilities on owner Stephen Ross' helicopter, just like former Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher did on Tuesday.

Toub has spent the last eight seasons in Chicago, where his units often ranked among the best in the NFL. The St. Louis Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars are also reported to be interested in his services.

Meanwhile, another former Super Bowl head coach, Billick, does not seem like a Dolphins target anymore. According to the Herald, the team has not invited Billick to interview for the job because of concerns about Billick's ego.

"Billick thinks he's always the smartest guy in the room and has no patience of dumb people," the Herald wrote.

Toub is very clearly the Dolphins' second choice at best behind Fisher. The Herald also reported Wednesday that Ross is willing to meet or beat any other contract offer Fisher receives this offseason.

Fisher is rumored to be a top candidate for the Rams' top job, and he met with the team in St. Louis on Wednesday.

The Dolphins might have a hard time convincing Fisher to ignore the overtures of the Rams. Fisher is said to be more comfortable with St. Louis' quarterback situation, and the team's COO, Kevin Demoff, is the son of Fisher's agent, Marvin Demoff.

St. Louis selected former Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford with the first pick of the 2010 NFL draft. Though he struggled with injuries in 2011, he is more talented -- and more proven -- than anyone on Miami's roster.

If money is Fisher's biggest concern regarding his next job, Miami will have a great chance at landing him. But the less Fisher values the biggest salary, the greater the odds Miami will have to settle for someone like Toub.
