Drunk Florida Woman Crashed Husband's Car After Fight: Authorities

Teresa Weeks, 61, was charged with DUI following the crash at the 23 Mile Marker in Cudjoe Key, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

A Florida Keys woman was arrested after authorities say she got drunk and wrecked her husband's car in a fiery crash following an argument Monday night.

Teresa Weeks, 61, was charged with DUI following the crash at the 23 Mile Marker in Cudjoe Key, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

Weeks was being held without bond Tuesday and it was unknown whether she has an attorney.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies had been at Weeks' home shortly before the crash after she was arguing with her husband, who was angry because she was intoxicated.

The deputies left when the husband said he would take the keys to their cars so Weeks couldn't drive, the sheriff's office said.

But minutes after the deputies left, around 10 p.m., they were dispatched to the crash scene, where an SUV had driven into some mangroves with Weeks behind the wheel, the sheriff's office said.

A witness said they saw Weeks driving the car and revving the engine to try to get the car out of the mangroves, the sheriff's office said.

The witness said Weeks told her she "didn’t know what she’d done to her husband’s car," the sheriff's office said. The woman said she pulled Weeks out of the vehicle because it was smoking.

Firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. No one was injured in the crash, which caused the roadway to be closed until shortly after 11 p.m.

Weeks was arrested after failing roadside sobriety exercises, the sheriff's office said. She also told a deputy the crash wouldn't have happened "if she’d had the keys to her car," the sheriff's office said.
