Guinness World Record: Man Runs on Arms and Legs to New Record

Several more records have been set on the Guinness World Records Day -- three of them set by Americans

A Japanese man who runs on his arms and legs broke his own Guinness world record for the 100-meter dash on Thursday, at the ninth annual Guinness World Records Day.

Kenichi Ito finished in 16.87 seconds, shaving more than half a second off his 2012 run of 17.47 seconds.

The 30-year-old Japanese has been training for a decade. He studies how primates move through books, videos and zoo visits, and even tries to move on all fours in his everyday life.

Ito hopes racing on four limbs will one day become an official track and field event.

Carlos Martinez, an official adjudicator for Guinness World Records, was on hand to witness the attempt and announced afterward that Ito had set a record.

Several more records have been set on the Guinness World Records Day -- three of them set by Americans, according to  NBC's "Today" show.

Brooklyn’s Scott Weiner set the mark for thr largest collection of pizza boxes with 595 gathered from 45 different countries.

Texan Tim Wade, 17, set the male record for most consecutive handsprings with 46. And a member of the Harlem Globetrotters, Thunder Law, threw a basketball 109 feet, 9 inches into a hoop to set the record for longest basketball shot.

The feats have been officially verified as world records, said Guinness spokesperson Sara Wilcox.

"Guinness World Records Day brings together likeminded people, whether they're hula-hoopers, ninjas, sword swallowers, or penguin fancy-dressers," said Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief, Craig Glenday, in a press release. "It's one thing to be amazing, but are you 'officially amazing'?"
