Strong winds could also be a factor.

April showers Friday afternoon have left more than 100 people without a home after the roof of an apartment complex caved in.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue had to evacuate the 64-unit Whispering Palms Apartment building located at 4540 NW 36th St.

Water began flowing from the ceilings of several of the units as heavy rains passed through the area during the afternoon. The apartment complex was undergoing roof repairs when the rain wiped out those efforts, BSO officials said.

Members of The Red Cross are on the scene assisting residents find a place to stay. BSO isn't allowing anyone inside until the building is deemed safe.
