Dog Dies in Plantation House Fire

Firefighters unable to rescue dog in cage from house fire

Authorities say a dog died in a early morning house fire in Plantation Wednesday.

The fire broke out around 8 a.m. at the home in the 200 block of Southwest 57th Avenue, Plantation Fire Rescue spokesman Joel Gordon said.

Gordon said that when firefighters arrived, the living room was nearly engulfed in flames.

Firefighters spotted a dog in a cage in the living room, but were unable to reach it, Gordon said.

The fire was extinguished and the home's owner was able to get out without injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Gordon said.
